Mighty Mississippi is an acoustic Blues trio, paying tribute to the music once played on the porches and in the juke joints of the American South in the 1930's and 1940's. In addition, Mighty Mississippi’s repertoire follows the musical migration northward during that era, and includes acoustic versions of electric Blues that evolved in the nightclubs and bars of Memphis and Chicago in the 1940's and 1950's. Contemporary material and original compositions, rockabilly and swing, are all part of Mighty Mississippi’s repository of acoustic music, drawing its inspiration from the Blues.
Since 2007, Mighty Mississippi has been delivering gutsy acoustic Blues with heartfelt lyrics to appreciative audiences. The band began that year as a duo with Alan Adelman (harmonica), Allen Capeloto (acoustic guitar). Joel Wilson (upright bass) joined the band in 2011. Home base for the band is San Francisco Bay Peninsula, in Northern California.

Kit Colman grew up in Woodside. As a child and young teen, when she wasn’t out exploring the trails of the Old La Honda watershed, she was drawing or sculpting. Colman attended Cal Poly SLO and received her BFA from California College of Arts and Crafts (CCA) in 1984. She worked as a Graphic Designer while taking classes until she moved to Texas after receiving her BFA, where she raised a family. There she continued to paint, taking on commissions of various subjects from horse portraits to landscapes. Her fine art studies led her to Texas Christian University where she studied sculpture with Cameron Schoepp. Her work with sculpture challenged and inspired how she painted.
Colman returned to the Bay Area in 2008 to paint full time. She now shares a studio with her mother, Ann Hogle, a well known Bay Area Figurative and Landscape painter. Colman’s current work has taken her deep into the regional landscapes of the Peninsula, exploring the forest path or the oak clad vistas of the iconic foothills.
Since her return to California, Kit Colman has had one person exhibitions in Woodside, San Francisco, San Mateo and Half Moon Bay. Her work is held in private and corporate collections in France and China and throughout the West Coast.
